At Citi Auto Group, we’re dedicated to helping you get the perfect car for your lifestyle, responsibilities, personal tastes and financial status. Concerned about having bad credit? Don’t worry – we’ve got you covered.

What is Bad Credit?
Bad credit. Good credit. Credit scores. All this can be quite confusing at first, and low credit scores can hold you back from spending your money exactly as you would like to, especially when it comes to purchasing a new car truck.

Life can be very difficult without a vehicle. Perhaps you need to drive yourself and your partner to work every day. Maybe you have children to drop off and pick up from school; not to mention grocery shopping, helping friends and family with rides, and other small-but-important errands.

Having your finance applications for a car loan rejected time and time again can be incredibly frustrating and upsetting. Having a vehicle is essential for millions of Americans today, whether you rely on your car to maintain your lifestyle, your livelihood, or both. Many banks and dealerships will refuse to provide a loan for a pre-owned vehicle to customers with bad credit. But Citi Auto Group is not like them.

How Do You Get Bad Credit?
If you’ve been classified as having bad credit, this can be due to various factors, including:

  • Late payments on credit cards - this makes up 35 percent of your credit score
  • Failing to pay credit cards payments altogether
  • Your accounts being ‘charged off’ when creditors believe you have no intention of paying bills
  • Filing bankruptcy
  • Having high balances on credit cards
  • Maxing out multiple credit cards
  • Closing credit cards with balances remaining
  • Closing old credit cards, which makes your credit history appear shorter
  • Applying for several loans and/or credit cards in a short span of time

What is a Bad Credit Score?
The Fair Isaac Corporation (FICO) is responsible for calculating credit scores in the United States. They pull data from the country’s three credit bureaus: Experian, Equifax, and TransUnion. Information from those bureaus enables them to assess your credit history and finalize your rating.

30 percent of the overall score is based on the amount of money you owe, while 15 percent applies to your history’s length. Another 10 percent is made up by the mix of credit in your name, along with 10 percent for new-credit inquiries. The rest depends on your payment history. FICO’s scoring system runs from 300 to 850. Scores lower than 579 are regarded as having “bad” credit, while those with scores between 580 and 669 have a ‘fair’ rating. Anything above that is good credit.

Many lenders are put off by bad credit scores because they believe it reflects a high risk. If you’ve failed to make payments on time in the past, why would you make deadlines in the future? This is a negative way to think. Everyone has different lifestyles, different responsibilities, and different personal financial circumstances. Sometimes, getting the money together to make a payment can be difficult, if not impossible. Even those with the best credit scores may run into difficult periods during which they simply cannot make a maximum payment on time.

At Citi Auto Group, we understand this. We offer an outstanding range of certified pre-owned vehicles in our Philadelphia showroom, and consider our auto loans a critical element of our business. Applying for an auto loan is usually a long, complicated process. You can trust Citi Auto Group to help you find the ideal financing solution for you.
